Leonardo Da Vinci is well known as a painter and inventor, accompanied by a long list of etc.s, but what is less often understood is the process by which he came to his greatness: with curiosity. Da Vinci would spend hours outside studying insects, and his breaking down the anatomy of the wings of dragonflies, for example, served as inspiration for some of his flying machines. What wonder is possible when we observe what is all around us? This is a workshop that asks that question and gives you a structured space to explore!

Designed to give writers a process of discovery and attention to detail, this four-part experience is about finding inspiration in our daily existence as a means of learning to bring it to life on the page. So often, we focus on how others write, how the fantastical is portrayed on the page and screen, that we overlook the beauty in our lived experiences, and the stories within.

Each week we will study how writers bring the everyday to life in a different medium (fiction, memoir, and poetry), the details they focus on, the devices they utilize. We’ll undertake writing exercises that allow us to practice engaging with the world we encounter daily.

This workshop is best for folks who feel stuck and want a creative spark, those who want to better understand how to bring characters/settings to life in their works in progress, and those who want to incorporate play into their process. Open to writers of any medium and experience level.
